This community based project focuses on quotidian meals of participants on my neighborhood. Food when viewed as a self-portrait represents a deeply personal expression of whom and what we are. As a central pillar of culture, eating habits are enrobed in stories, beliefs, tradition and ideologies. Along with the photographs I conducted brief demographic surveys, exploring the relationship the participants had with their food. I assembled a cookbook with selected stories, photographs and recipes, which was then given to the participants for their involvement, along with a donation (corresponding with their meal) to the Edmonton Food Bank in their name. This project is ongoing as I hope to continue to map out my city by these means, uncovering and examining relationships between geographic, socioeconomic and cultural regions in relation to the food piled onto the plates.
